Education is the continuous process of human life and regarded as all round development of human life. It begins from womb of mother and ends to the tomb .Until and unless the sector of education is developed, a country cannot progress ahead. With the purpose of enhancing academic status and to reduce unwanted pressure of students in the constituent colleges, Tribhuvan University (T.U.) brought a policy to affiliate community colleges and run them by the efforts and contribution of the local people in 2037 B.S. Shaheed Smriti Multiple Campus (SSMC), established in 2037 (1980 A.D) in the eastern part of Chitwan district, is a committed and dynamic educational institution, providing quality courses in a serene academic environment that encourages students to achieve academic excellence in their studies. Student’s satisfaction with qualitative teaching methods, public support and outstanding well-equipped facilities are the central tenets of the educational system of the campus. SSMC has been running both Bachelors (BA, BBS, BEd., BBM, BSc.) and Masters Programs in Management, Education and Humanities and Social Science faculties. Elective options offered by the institution in Management faculty are Accountancy, Financial Management and Marketing. Health Education, Educational Planning and Management, English Education, Nepali Education, Population Education and Mathematics Education are the elective subjects in Education faculty. Similarly, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in SSMC offers Sociology, Population Studies, English, BSW and Nepali as the specialization subjects. SSMC has recently run academic autonomous program named BFA (Bachelor in Financial Administration). These programs and elective options are intended to fulfill the requirements of students in this region in well-equipped and convenience surrounding with qualified, fully motivated and well experienced lecturers. Among the community based campuses, it has a distinct image throughout the nation. Including the sufficient physical infrastructures on its own land; it has good hands to run the programs effectively and efficiently. The academic courses offered in the campus are really qualitative and productive for career development of the students. In context of running autonomous courses in SSMC, campus was enthusiastically interested in exercising academic autonomy. It took the sanction of autonomy rule in Nepal as a good opportunity to exercise it. At the same time, Campus management committee intensively discussed about the issues, opportunities and formed a task force to study the possibility as well as pros and cons of exercising academic autonomy. The team consulted with stakeholders, studied the situation and recommended positively to CMC with some recommendations. Campus Management Committee assigned the responsibility of identifying the best & suitable program to the PRU. The PRU conducted discussion programs with various stakeholders and identified different types of programs to satisfy local needs. The committee again met with campus administration and faculty members to evaluate resources availability with the institution to develop and implement the BFA program. CMC members and PRU team consulted with experts and stakeholders to finalize the program. BFA is a multi disciplinary course. It logically combines theories of Financial Management and theories of Economics to create holistic knowledge about both Public Finance and Corporate Finance. The basic objective of this program is to equip students with the knowledge of financial economics. It is 8 semester program that covers 120 credit hours having Core courses, Management tools courses and focused area. The committee is further collecting experts' opinion, their suggestions and recommendations to make it more objective and relevant. SSMC is strongly committed to exercising academic autonomy through BFA program. The campus will extend it to examination autonomy and all other programs. Finally, the campus will try its best to be deemed university with own courses and evaluation system. The management committee of SSMC has already formed a steering committee and Academic Council to carry out the responsibility of autonomous course of BFA effectively. Management committee is ready to generate all kinds of physical and financial resources to implement autonomous status of the campus effectively. SSMC is strictly following the rules and regulations about the autonomous academic institutions as per the guidelines of project implementation office regarding the scholarships, fee structures, course structures and so on.
