Environment Program Specialist

POSITION: Environment Program Specialist, Personal Services Contractor.


WORK HOURS: Full-time; 40 hours/week (see “Period of Performance” section for length of assignment.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in forestry, environmental or related field.
  2. Minimum of four years of work experience in the environment, forestry, or related field
  3. Fluency in both written and spoken Nepali and English.
  4. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience working alongside village community members on locally-prioritized projects in Nepal.
  2. Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following skills: environmental education, solid waste management, community forestry, alternative energy, improved cookstoves.
  3. Knowledgeable about community/participatory assessment tools, designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of community projects.
  4. Good presentation skills.
  5. Experience of working and/or interacting with government officials at province and local level.
  6. Experience working with an international organization and or with foreigners
  7. Experience working with or supporting volunteers.

 

Prior Work Experience:

  • Experience providing direct technical support on environmental education, solid waste management, community forestry, alternative energy, and income generation tasks.
  • Experience partnering with rural community members to identify, enhance, and mobilize their strengths to address community interests and priorities
  • Experience facilitating learning environments that promote collaborative, peer- supported learning, and the Experiential Learning Cycle
  • Experience partnering with individuals with marginalized social identities (caste, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, and so on) in Nepal.
  • Experience navigating language and culture in a rural village community setting in Nepal.
  • Experience in a cross-cultural setting with American or international organizations
  • Experience with organizations that achieve their mission through volunteerism.

 

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in forestry, environmental or related field.
