Lotus English Boarding School

J8G8+JW, Lalitpur, Nepal

Lotus English Boarding has been established, with the hopes of ensuring the longevity of excellent academic achievements through our commitment to excellent quality education for all. We, at LEBS, believe that a child's education is the foundation for learning and achievements throughout life. By involving faculty, parents, and community, members in shared decision-making, we endeavor to constantly create an environment where respect and care are modeled by all. Our goal is to help each student become a responsible, productive member of society with valuable work force skills. We will strive to help all students develop to their fullest potential through the teaching of basic values and academic curriculum which combines with critical thinking, communication, collaboration, time management, initiation skills and current technology. Students will be encouraged to listen to others with understanding and be open-minded. We will provide the structure, encouragement and a safe environment through the maintenance of school system that will foster growth. We encourage respect for others by treating students, faculty members, and patrons alike. It is our belief that the school environment should be one that fosters the well-being and overall growth of a child; where he/she feels safe and thus makes learning an exciting adventure. Keeping in mind the learning abilities of each individual student, we adopt activities which appeal to their different learning capabilities. Lessons will be structured to involve one or more intelligence and cover a reasonable range and balance over the academic year. To release students from competitive rating against fellow students so they may become free to reveal strengths and weaknesses without loss of self-esteem. Lotus English Boarding School was established in 2063 with a vision to enhance leadership, character and service of each individual to become responsible and productive members of society. By adopting arts and research into the curriculum, we employ integrated approach to education. Keeping in mind the learning abilities of each individual student, we adopt activities which appeal to their different learning capabilities. Lessons are structured to involve one or more intelligence and cover a reasonable range and balance over the academic year. The distinctive character of LEBS is manifested: In our Profile As Nepal’s evolving progressive school, we shoulder a responsibility to make academic choices based on current school education trends and national need as well as community preference. All in all, we will be seen as an institution which is contemporary and conscientious learning center in its truest sense, as a result of which prospective students (parents), higher education centers, staff, and alumni feel a pride in being associated with us in various capacities. In our Student Body The student body at LEBS is drawn from across the nation, primarily from the Kathmandu Valley and from expatriates who reside in the Valley. Diversified students are attracted to the school by our reputation, the quality of our staff and facilities and the unique nature of the educational experience. LEBS has a distinctive mix of students, with a growing emphasis on creative talents, excellent coursework and community service. We aim to further develop a community of scholars in which inspired students, interact with staff in a research-led environment. As such, research, arts and education are linked, mutually reinforcing each other. As our location in Lalitpur, and the focus on progressive education, we will always have a relatively small student population. However, as progressive school education participation rates increase, LEBS also continues to increase its student population in a controlled manner at both primary and secondary levels. A larger student population will provide the school greater critical mass, offer students greater breadth of interactions and enhanced resources. Students will have a great life at LEBS as manifest in the following: A major learning philosophy of ours is that education must have relevance to real life. Only then can students put their knowledge into practice, and hence the education they have received has some meaningful value. Whether students are seeking study skills, participation in a favorite sport or activity, outings to explore the spectacular natural beauty, opportunities for social interaction, or information about education and career options, they'll be in good hands during their years at LEBS. And, they'll have fun too, no doubt. Life at LEBS might look quiet, but always dynamic, and never boring. On the one hand, our teachers bring in diverse experience to share in the classrooms while using case studies, project works, arts, research and classroom interactions. On the other hand, every diverse student finds something interesting to match their interests. As a whole, students are hardly ever bored during their school life. Even our assignments and project works excite them equally because through these our students will be offered chances to use the creative side of their mind, exploration, socialization and of course diligence; in the process they use a very high level of their potential for a transformational experience. Student Representatives- A group of chosen students take various positions such as School Captain, Vice-Captain, House Captains and House Prefects. The group members observe around the school and support in maintaining conducive environment for learning. Events -There will be numerous intra-class, intra-school and inter-school events as well as community-based events in each of which students learn from participating and organizing. Various events at the school create vibrant community opportunities to explore their personal interests while practicing them, opportunities to develop leadership potential; and an exciting schedule of student-involved events and activities. Finally, Treks, Tours and Community Visits add life away from school life: Being a student at LEBS is not only realizing academic degrees, but also living life fully. Students walk important years of life with us, in their choice. Treks, tours and community visits within the country are some off-line events that help students redefine themselves, freshen up from the daily hustle-bustle life of the city while strengthening their network with school-mates and coming back with some new vigor for life as well as interesting stories to share with. In our Focus on Education Policy Issues LEBS is recognized as an emerging contributor to education policies and situations debate, addressing the major issues confronted by education and society (parenting). In this role, LEBS is one of the points for debate and discussion on such issues and the source of unbiased, high-quality advice and comment. In Educational Effectiveness The educational philosophy of LEBS is that students are part of a community of scholars. Because the vast majority of LEBS’s academic staff are passionate educators with substantial training on progressive teaching models, education will be practice-based. LEBS engages students and stretch them intellectually, encouraging them to question the norms – to ask “why” not only “how” and to discover through their own research. Educational excellence with the prime priority, LEBS aims to create a holistic educational experience, unique in Nepal, which goes beyond the narrow confines of the classroom. The LEBS educational advantage will consist of: an engaging curriculum at primary level (Nepal government’s prescribed curriculum is definitely be followed as stipulated); extended school involvement for students, including engagement in student-led club activities and wide range of co/extra-curricular activities; innovative learning and teaching, including the appropriate use of technology; parental involvement in uplifting school standards while providing platform for parenting education. We strongly believe that equipping students with required knowledge and foundational clarity is too rudimentary. Now, we need to rise much higher. What is important is not how much knowledge our students have encompassed, but what they do with the knowledge they have gained. Skills such as Critical Thinking, Socialization, Adaptation, Initiation, Communication, Collaboration (working with others), and Using Technology are what students must develop through our teaching learning activities. And, to achieve these, our entire body of teachers, staff and even students themselves will be trained to get accustomed to activity-based practical education. Our core learning philosophies are: All students learn, but not in the same way, at the same pace and at the same time. Students learn best when they are engaged in some activities. Each student should compete with self and cooperate with others. Thinking critically and asking questions is more important than accumulating knowledge alone. Social, emotional, creative and physical developments add to the all-round development of students. Arts and research should be integrated into learning for students to be independent and creative. In pursuit of these philosophies, LEBS further enhances the school experience for all students, providing a richer experience and more opportunities for engagement. LEBS provides an engaging teaching environment and an innovative curriculum. Most of the times, the environment is innovative and energizing for both staff and students. The contributions of highly skilled and dedicated general staff are critical to the future of the School and an essential element in the success of LEBS in meeting the standards of excellence to which we are committed hereby encroaching the students’ success. In our Staff As members of a our school, our academic staff are widely regarded passionate educators and caring individuals. As an institution, LEBS aims to attract, develop and retain the most outstanding staff from around the country and competent educators from abroad. The School must be among the first choices for high-performing staff. We will amend our recruitment processes for all new academic staff from appointing the best candidate who meets a minimum set of criteria to one of searching for outstanding staff. This search process continues until excellence is found. Every appointment is regarded as of the utmost importance. We encourage and support staff to become progressive education philosophies/ techniques and participate in educational interaction. We continue to strengthen our recruitment, development and retention programs to ensure that LEBS has the best possible general staff. We ensure that all staffs are respected, talent is nurtured and supported, and staff enjoy a safe and engaging work environment. We ensure that staff appraisal and promotion processes equally reward excellence in education, professional expertise and service. We address any staff member’s grievances, concerns or suggestions with objectivity, sensitivity and priority. We have staff handbook that outlines policies relating to staff. In National/ International Outreach and Networks LEBS feels the need to be well connected with other institutions. LEBS develops an active set of national alliances where these links strengthen the School’s national role as well as build and enrich the educational mission and research activities of the School. LEBS values public relations and encourage meaningful participation in media. In Organization’s Effectiveness Effective organizations need efficient organizational structures and clear policies and procedures to underpin their activities. The staff structure and value system are important for successful operations of the school. A special care, however, needs to be given on the use of advanced technology and eco-friendly operations to both reduce costs and increase effectiveness. LEBS continues to develop its structure and ensure there are clear policies, procedures, reporting lines and accountability across the School. To work efficiently, such a structure requires: clear organizational lines clear policy guidance efficient, integrated information/ record keeping systems. LEBS ensures that administration is successfully measured against these criteria and is fit for purpose, across functions including: finance, development, human resources, research, student management and information services including learning support. In Infrastructure High-quality physical and technological infrastructures are critical elements of a school. Such infrastructure includes the built environment of the school and the IT systems required for teaching and research. Access to the world stock of knowledge through libraries and innovative teaching spaces is essential to the delivery of engaging education. Provision of such infrastructure is, however, extremely expensive and requires careful planning, not only for its acquisition, but also its ongoing maintenance and ultimate replacement. LEBS aims to be as strategic as possible in our infrastructure development, through: developing a detailed Capital Management Plan to parallel the School Master Plan communicating with shareholders, parents and/ or financial institutions for funds/ loan planning and decision processes for developing the School’s information infrastructure and services which ensure that they are enabling, valued and shaped to support LEBS objectives continually examining opportunities to develop facilities. LEBS aims to provide a physical environment that meets world’s best sustainability practice with the intent that is innovate and leads in school education sector. The strategies for the future, as outlined in this plan, are based on the confident assumption that the BODs continue to be supportive of the activities and infrastructure requirements to meet our goals framed.
