Job purpose:

The Pharmacy Assistant’s role is designed to provide support to the Pharmacist in delivering safe and effective pharmaceutical care to patients. This may entail responsibilities such as medication dispensing, inventory management, patient education, and record-keeping. The primary objective of the job is to ensure precise medication dispensing, adequate patient counseling, compliance with regulations and policies, and contribute to optimal patient health outcomes while maintaining efficient pharmacy operations.

Big 3 Responsibilities:

The Big 3 Responsibilities of the Pharmacy Assistant are:

  • Dispense medicines as per prescriptions provided by clinical staff.
  • Provide compassionate counseling, health education, and treatment to patients.
  • Maintain an organized, exquisitely clean, and safe pharmacy store.

 

Areas of Responsibility (AoRs):

The Pharmacy Assistant will collaborate closely with our Medical and Operations & Procurement Team and have primary responsibilities for the following tasks:

Dispense medicines as per prescriptions provided by clinical staff;

  • Accurately provide medications to patients based on prescriptions from clinical staff, ensuring correct medication, dosage, and labeling.
  • Follow established protocols for medication dispensing, including verifying patient information, medication interactions, and dosage calculations to prioritize patient safety.
  • Maintain proper documentation of medication dispensing activities in accordance with regulatory requirements and pharmacy policies.

 

Provide compassionate counseling, health education, and treatment to patients.

  • Provide compassionate counseling to patients on medication usage, side effects, and administration techniques, as well as lifestyle modifications and disease management.
  • Provide health education to patients, including medication adherence, disease prevention, and self-care strategies to promote positive health outcomes.
  • Assist with basic clinical procedures, such as vaccinations or simple treatments under the supervision of a Pharmacist, ensuring compliance with regulations, policies, and patient confidentiality.

 

Maintain an organized, exquisitely clean, and safe pharmacy store;

  • Ensure the pharmacy store is clean, organized, and well-maintained to create a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Adhere to proper procedures for medication storage and handling, including temperature control, labeling, and disposal, in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Conduct regular inventory checks to maintain adequate stock levels, proper storage, and timely removal of expired or damaged medications, and assist with inventory management tasks as needed.
