Other Specification:

  • Masters Degree in Clinical Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychology, Clinical counselor or in any relevant subject is preferred.
  • Experienced working with children (minimum 3 years)
  • Specific interest/experience in:
              -At-risk and disadvantaged children
              -Trauma and anxiety
  • Continued training in updated methodologies and approaches
  • Strong oral and written skills–evaluation and report writing
  • Fluency in English (to communicate with U.S. staff).

 

Job Description:

Sunsar Maya is seeking a Mental Health Therapist with experience working with at-risk and disadvantaged children (including those that are orphaned and/or living in extreme poverty) to work in our Jorpati, Machhegaun and Mahalaxmi locations. Working time for the therapist will be discussed in the interview as classes will run from 3-6pm providing both individual and group therapies.

 

The therapist should coordinate closely with the program managers, Instructors, and Country Director in Nepal and report to the executive director in the U.S.

 

  • Create and carry out comprehensive assessments and therapy plans for all children art, music, and play therapies encouraged.
  • Coordinate and participate with Sunsar Maya staff to facilitate children’s holistic development.
  • Use of screening tool to find out underlying emotional and mental health problems
  • Identify children’s basic physical, nutritional needs and problems and help to refer them to the appropriate treatment centers.
  • Conduct following individual therapeutic sessions (but not limited to): 
  1. History taking and need assessment
  2. Behavior therapy, 
  3. Cognitive behavior therapy/ Trauma focused CBT
  4. Counseling (directive/non-directive)
  5. Assertiveness training to enhance children’s personality and self-esteem.
  6. Social skill training
  7. Stress management and relaxation techniques: Mindfulness meditation, meditation, breathing exercise, yoga, guided imagery etc.
  8. Provide health education according to needs
  9. Provide needed treatment to individual and groups
  10. Provide sexual and reproductive health education to both staff and children
  11. Psychoeducation, insight oriented psychotherapy,
  12. Family therapy, group psychotherapy
  13. Tactful to handle children’s emotional issues
  14. Nature therapy, mirror therapy
  • Keep detailed (online) records for each student
  • Provide recommendations and at-home therapy plans for staff and caretakers
  • Provide training to Sunsar Maya staff on identifying needs and treatments
  • Hold individual and group training and workshop sessions with family members and caretakers on providing better care
  • Work with Sunsar Maya management on building better services for our students
  • Provide regular reports to executive directors in the U.S.
  • Communicate with advisory therapists in the U.S. on therapies, approaches, etc.
