FUNCTION
To serve as the Knowledge Management & Communication Manager, in accordance with HPI objectives, policies and procedures. The major function of the Knowledge Management & Communication Manager will be to ensure that the internal and external communication are in line with the vision, mission and branding of Heifer International, developing/publishing communication materials, knowledge management and documentation, and other essential duties. Knowledge Management & Communication Manager will work in coordination with the Heifer’s Global Communication Department and Country team along with Knowledge and Information Manager-Asia . He/she will at least contribute 50% of his/her time on knowledge building and positioning the organsaition among internal and external stakeholders including Development partners and government intities.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DELIVERABLES: (including approximate percentage effort)

A) Documentation and Knowledge Management (40%)

  • Prepare and implement organization’s Knowledge Management Strategy/Plan.
  • Responsible for Heifer publication e.g. newsletter, annual report, project flyers and others as needed.
  • Work closely with M&E team and package project progress/result data in appropriate formats (audio, video, print) for donors and related stakeholders.
  • Coordinate special studies and documentation on HPIN’s specific thematic areas and/or programs and their impacts.
  • Coordinate researches/studies to be conducted by Heifer in Nepal and maintain relationship with academic, research institutions.
  • Develop Knowledge management documents and messaging to position the organsation among wider stakeholders including development partners and government entities.
  • Build the capacity of project staff and engage them in documentation & knowledge management.
  • Ensure the information needs of the organization are met in a timely, effective and efficient manner.
  • Properly achieve digital copy of knowledge materials (including photo, video, audio, print materials) in an accessible manner.

B) Internal and External Communication (30%) :

  • Prepare and implement communication strategy/plan for HPIN and its projects.
  • Develop visibility and communication materials (documents, video, audio messages, presentation deck, media kit etc.).
  • Ensure dissemination of visibility and communication materials to donors/ partners/ government organizations/stakeholders etc.
  • Showcase project progress and achievements to visitors (national & international) via field trips.
  • Share Heifer experiences and programs in various forums to enhance visibility.
  • Manage visibility within office premises (walls, reception area, meeting halls, etc.).

C) Media mobilization (15%)

  • Develop relationship and network with international, national and local media, journalists and publication houses.
  • Positively impact the media so that they play a role in raising Heifer profile and brand awareness.
  • Prepare press releases, news, blogs and event reports and ensure transmission and coverage in appropriate print/visual/audio/online media.
  • Manage HPIN’s website and all social media sites (Facebook, LinkedIn, Flickr, twitter, YouTube, etc.).

D) Branding, marking, and event management (10%)

  • Develop/update brand and communication guidelines for HPIN and its projects following Heifer’s branding policy.
  • Ensure proper branding of Heifer in all the visibility materials including branding of its projects and project partners, collaborators, etc.
  • Coordinate and support in organizing national and international campaigns, events, workshops, etc.

E) May perform other job-related duties as assigned (5%)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Journalism or relevant field plus seven (7) years of relevant experience.
  • Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements

Preferred Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Mass Communication, Journalism or relevant field plus five (5) years of relevant experience.

Most Critical Proficiencies:

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent organizational skills including strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets power point, excel, Photoshop, designing software, video editing, web designing and desktop publishing
  • Ability to initiate and cultivate relationships with media personnel and journalists.
